Brandon Wilmoth

Brandon Wilmoth
Name: Brandon Wilmoth

Age: 25

Hometown: Wellington, Kansas

What age did you start hunting: I began hunting small game in grade school with my Dad and friends.

How many days a year do you hunt: Everyday is a hunting day for me. I'm either scouting, working on food plots, putting up stands, sitting in my stand or reading about hunting.

Favorite Big Game Animal: Whitetail Deer

Favorite Hunting Area: Kansas Timber

Favorite Style of Hunting (still hunting, ground blind, spot and stalk): I can't think of anything better than sitting in a tree stand looking over a hot trail.

Weapon of Choice (rifle, shotgun, modern compound bow, longbow/recurve, blackpowder): My weapon of choice is my Hoyt bow. I have used a rifle but nothing in my opinion beats bow hunting.

Weapon Brand/Model of Choice: Hoyt Bow

Favorite RutWear Product: My all season quarter zip jacket. It is great to have in the truck to put on when needed, it is comfortable and quiet.

Proudest Achievement: My proudest achievement in the outdoor world would be starting my own outfitting business in South Central Kansas named Kansas Racks & Quacks with two of my closet hunting buddies. We have and continue to work very hard to make this outfitting business something special for us and for our hunters that come and hunt with us.

I began deer hunting when I was 15 years old. I was able to get permission on a small piece of ground north of my hometown. To talk about a difficult year, I used a hand-me-down bow, one tree stand and I had no prior knowledge of deer hunting. However this was the year the passion for hunting was born inside me and each year it continues to grow. I learned a lot from my mistakes that year. To this day I still hunt that small piece of ground and each time I go in there I think back about the lessons I learned.

When I first began waterfowl hunting, it consisted mostly of pond jumping. In high school that slowly faded into buying decoys, calls, and learning the true art of waterfowl hunting. I was truly lucky that I had good friends that took me under their wings and taught me how to hunt waterfowl effectively. I still hunt with these friends and enjoy getting out with them and hammering some birds or just talking about past hunts. One of the best sights to see is ducks or geese locked in on your spread and coming in.

I have recently taken my hunting enthusiasm to the next level and started an Outfitting business in South Central Kansas called Kansas Racks & Quacks with two partners. Kansas Racks & Quacks was an idea we had been mulling on for a long time and are thrilled to have finally put it into motion. We each bring our own experiences and skills to Kansas Racks & Quacks and continue to make it a fun and enjoyable place to hunt and spend time with friends. It is an amazing experience to help a young man shoot his turkey or to help an adult land a trophy buck that makes them feel young again!
